Education Intern - Wilson Center Funded

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to all registered Pace students (undergraduate, graduate and international students)  that are graduating in Dec. 2024 OR later.

Position Overview:  Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside seasoned teachers throughout the course of our 5 week summer program. Interns will be assigned to a classroom for the duration of the summer and will gain experience with classroom management, lesson planning, and instruction. Interns will see first-hand the impact that teachers can have on the academic and emotional development of students and develop skills for their future careers in education.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Leading small group activities in the classroom
• Executing smooth transitions by moving students quickly and safely from one location to another throughout the day
• Keep students engaged by ensuring productive behaviors from students throughout the day
• Support the teacher with strong student engagement and classroom management strategies.
• Supervise students throughout recess and lunch
• Help to prepare and record student information submitting summaries of interactions with students’ families if scheduled, assisting with completion of assessment trackers, and completing incident reports

Preferred Skills:
• Demonstrated interest in a career in education through coursework, internships, volunteer work, or a job.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Additional: GO’s impact on short- and long-term academic success is clear. All students avoid summer learning loss; 70% of GO’s youngest learners (K- 2) demonstrate at least one month or more of growth in reading and math during summer programming; and 65% of students demonstrate accelerated learning during the school year. Once in 9th grade, GO alumni consistently outperform students citywide in all measures of success including GPA, credits accumulated, and school days attended. 90% of GO alumni graduate from high school on time and 80% enroll in a four-year college.
