Advocacy and Engagement Intern - Wilson Center Funded

About the Employer:   The Transparency, Accountability & Participation (TAP) Network is a broad and influential network of over 400 civil society organizations (CSOs) that works around the UN’s 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals – with a focus on SDG16--peace, justice, governance and strong institutions. The TAP Network collectively works to mobilize and empower civil society at all levels to work with and hold governments accountable to SDG16 commitments and the 2030 Agenda more broadly.

Our over-arching goals are to support, contribute and strengthen capacity of civil society stakeholders to work on issues of transparency, accountability and participation in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the global and national levels, with a particular focus on SDG 16 which underpins the entirety of the 2030 Agenda. Through this work, the TAP Network aims to:

1. Provide the tools and support to civil society organizations to understand, work with, and hold governments accountable to SDG16 at all levels

2. Help CSOs hold governments accountable to the 2030 Agenda and SDGs, including through civil society reporting and engagement in Voluntary National Reviews

3. Mobilize, organize and help empower civil society working around SDG16 and 2030 Agenda accountability through regional and national-level coordination and collaboration.
 

Position Overview: The TAP Network is currently seeking a qualified candidate who will have the opportunity to provide direct support to a thriving network of civil society actors working around the UN’s 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. This internship will focus on the UN’s 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in New York and preparations for the 2024 Summit of the Future. This internship will provide numerous opportunities for taking on important responsibilities for the TAP Network, with this intern expected to help plan and execute key events during the 2024 HLPF, as well as provide general administrative support for the TAP Network, including related to advocacy, communications, and knowledge management for the issue of transparency and accountability in the 2030 Agenda.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Help coordinate relevant meetings, events, conference calls and workshops for the Network around the 2024 High-level Political Forum (HLPF), and generate agendas, minutes and any other materials needed to advance TAP coordination and advocacy
• Help coordinate #SDG16Now Campaign activities, events, calls and communications in the margins of the 2024 HLPF and in the lead-up to the 2024 Summit of the Future
• Generate content for TAP Network and #SDG16Now Campaign channels—including website and social media
• Support the drafting and development of communications and outreach materials
• Attend relevant meetings related to the 2030 Agenda and liaise with relevant civil society representatives, UN personnel and diplomats as needed;
• Assisting the TAP Network Coordinator and Communications & Engagement Officer in following all relevant UN processes related to the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs
• Support the TAP Coordinator and TAP Steering Committee in coordination of TAP Network activities and work
• Assist in administrative duties and overall grant management for the program

Preferred Skills:
• Preference will be given to candidates who possess prior experience/knowledge of the United Nations system and political processes, particularly around the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs (specifically SDG16 – peaceful, just and inclusive societies).
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Experience organizing in-person and virtual events via Zoom
• Research and writing skills, particularly for drafting reports and publications for advocacy-focused NGOs/non-profits in the realm of international development, peace and security
• Previous experience in website and social media management (experience with Trello, Buffer and WordPress is a plus)
• An ability to work quickly, under pressure, and with strong attention to detail
• Interest in international affairs, sustainable development and good governance
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of a foreign language (particularly Spanish or French) is a plus

• Experienced in event coordination, specifically around the United Nations

• Interested in and has previous knowledge of or experience in international development-related work, ideally with the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs or the Peace and Security agenda.

**This internship is funded by the Helene & Grant Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Pace University, the intern hired for this position will make a full-time commitment for 8 weeks, working no more than 35 hours each week, a total of 280 hours at $19/hr*
