Climate Policy Intern - Community Impact Summer Internship 2024

ATTENTION PACE STUDENTS:  This paid Summer 2024 opportunity is provided by Pace University through its Community Impact Funded Internship Program to support our students and the communities we serve. It’s open to all enrolled Pace students, including undergraduate, graduate, and international students.

Under this program, full-time internships are provided by host organizations selected by Pace University Career Services staff. The compensation is $19.00 per hour. The maximum amount of money a student can make under this program in 2024 is $6,000.00.

Students must be enrolled at Pace University during the entire length of their internship, and NOT graduating before December 2024. If a student leaves Pace or graduates before the estimated end of their internship, the internship will end immediately.

The position might require you to report to a work site, work remotely, or work a hybrid schedule.

  • Complete program requirements for one of the following: ASPIREINSPIRE, or BUS 255 course. 
  • Be a currently enrolled Pace student (undergraduate, graduate, and international students), graduating Dec 2024 or later.

Once the application deadline closes, the host organization will review all applications submitted and select those candidates they wish to interview virtually. After the interviews are completed, the host organization will make their selections. Career Services will then inform selected students of their internship offer(s).

Title of Internship: Climate Policy Intern

Brief description:

The climate policy intern will support the Waterfront Alliance’s senior manager for climate policy to advance policy and legislative priorities through policy research, organize collective actions among stakeholders, support coalition working groups, and implement communications efforts related to the campaign (i.e., drafting advocacy materials such as memos of support, research documents, and Action Alerts).  

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach activities for the coalition, including attending/presenting at meetings, meeting community stakeholders in New York and northern New Jersey, and mobilizing partners to implement actions. Some engagements may be in-person while others virtual. 
  • Support policy advancement related to climate resilience through research, drafting documents, and engagement with coalition partners. 
  • Manage campaign-related event administration (e.g., meetings with elected officials and state/local agencies, panel presentations, etc.). 
  • Support policy communication efforts, including drafting content for emails, newsletters, social media, Action Network, testimonies, press releases, etc. 
  • Oversee database management, meeting scheduling, notetaking, and other administrative tasks relevant to the campaign. 
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned by the senior manager for climate policy. 

 

Who would be perfect for this job (qualifications):

  • One to two years of relevant experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, coalition-build, and implement effective tactics to elevate community priorities into policy changes 
  • Knowledge of issues related to climate resilience, environmental justice, land use, labor, housing, and environment in New York and New Jersey 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and presentation ability 
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of stakeholders and a commitment to prioritizing/empowering the voices of underrepresented communities 
  • Experience with graphic design, marketing, social media platforms a plus 
  • Spanish language fluency a plus 

 

Preferred start and end dates (Not to exceed 9 weeks): June – August (flexible)
