About the Organization: South Bronx United uses soccer as a tool for social change aiming to help youth build character, teamwork, and leadership so that they can succeed in high school, college, careers, their community, and beyond. South Bronx United strives to promote educational achievement, health and wellness, and character development through activities on and off the soccer field and to unite a diverse group of individuals and an incredibly diverse community toward common positive goals.

Position Overview: Nonprofit development and communications interns work closely with South Bronx United’s Development Manager and Communications and Community Outreach Manager to build organizational capacity, increase awareness, and raise crucial funds. The intern’s work is focused in three key areas: (1) funder research & editing, (2) fundraising through special events and sponsorships, and (3) press relations, social media, and communications. Within these areas, the position can be molded to fit the individual's strengths and interests

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Research funding prospects and present analysis.
•Support staff in managing donor database and donor communications.
•Assist in planning and operation of fundraising events and activities.
•Work with youth participants and staff in telling the stories of the organization’s impact.
•Create organization newsletters and other external communications.
•Research press opportunities and conduct outreach.
•Support staff in managing development and communications calendars
•Support staff in tracking key performance indicators.

Preferred Skills:
•Currently pursuing or interested in pursuing careers in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, development, community development, or public policy.
•Able to work effectively in independent and remote.
•Enthusiastic and caring.
•Background in or appreciation for the value of soccer or youth sports.
•Competent working in multicultural settings with young people from various backgrounds
•Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Documents.
•Strong communication skills.

The Ideal Candidate Is:
Along with possessing a passion for supporting nonprofit work and serving urban youth, an intern should have strong communication and writing skills and comfort using Microsoft Excel and Google Documents. Additionally, an ideal candidate should have a background or interest in communications, nonprofit management, marketing or another related field. Experience in event planning and/or fundraising is a plus but not essential.
