About the Organization
ExpandED Schools is a nonprofit organization that believes in the power of community partnerships to transform inequitable education systems and support an after-school field that re-imagines learning. Our mission is to unite the after-school field through research, innovation, advocacy, and capacity-building towards the goal of ensuring all young people have access to great educational enrichment activities. As New York City’s largest education intermediary focused on expanded learning, we:
  • Design innovative programs, train schools and community-based organizations to collaboratively implement them, and evaluate their effectiveness for program refinement;
  • Strengthen teaching and learning through professional development and technical assistance in the after-school field; and
  • Partner with policymakers and influencers to secure public support for expanded learning. Coalitions
While rooted in New York City, we create educational models that can be adapted in other geographies and regularly disseminate our research, learning, and tools to achieve national impact. Since our founding in 1998, when we created the nation’s first citywide system of K-12 after- school programming, ExpandED Schools has expanded opportunities for more than one million students by building capacity among hundreds of schools and community partners.

Within all of these contexts, ExpandED works with schools and their community partners to align their systems, supports, and programming to drive the academic and socio-emotional success of every child—making every hour count.
