About the Organization
The 9/11 Tribute Museum offers visitors the ability to learn factual information about the events, the unprecedented rescue and recovery operations and the rebuilding of both Lower Manhattan and of people’s lives.
The Museum presents videos, artifacts and “Person to Person History,” linking visitors who want to understand the historic events of 9/11 with those who experienced them. Visitors discover the tremendous spirit of resilience and service that arose after the attacks, and are encouraged to honor the legacy of that spirit through volunteerism and acts of kindness in their own communities. Personal gallery and walking tour experiences are available for student and group visits.

About the Internship
The 9/11 Tribute Museum is seeking a summer intern to work with the Marketing and Media teams responsible for all aspects of marketing and programming, including promotion of exhibits, walking tours, school programs, and public programs, as well as all digital marketing campaigns. The 9/11 Tribute Museum is a museum dedicated to preserving and sharing the personal stories of September 11, 2001. The intern will be working 35 hours per week on-site primarily in our office, as well as within our museum space to create content, including but not limited to writing blog posts and editing video.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Assisting Social Media Manager in generating content, including conceptualizing blog post topics, writing posts, and research for shareable content.
  • Working with Marketing and Media teams to generate video content for marketing purposes.
  • Assisting Web Manager to review and update websites, including but not limited to preparing and uploading web content, participating in design updates, and ensuring content is optimized across platforms.
  • Reading and cataloguing messages from visitors, and curating appropriate messages for use in marketing.
  • Engaging with visitors to learn how they heard about the 9/11 Tribute Museum and why they chose to visit; curating this information for marketing use.

Education & Experience
  • Undergraduate and Graduate applicants from all majors are acceptable for this internship. Marketing, Media Relations, Business, Language, and related majors are strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., Buffer (or similar content schedulers), as well as creating marketing content for such platforms.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and related photo editing software, digital photography, Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premiere (or similar video editing software), and video editing are all a plus.
  • Experience with digital marketing services and tools, including Google AdWords, Facebook Ads or similar ad services, Google Analytics, and others are a plus.
  • Familiarity with light web design and development, including Content Management Systems (such as WordPress or similar), HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel or similar software.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Based on the emotional nature of the content of 9/11 Tribute Museum, experience in working with content that requires sensitive handling and the ability to speak to others about related sensitive topics is strongly preferred.
